Le Babouin de François-Xavier Lalanne est une œuvre extraordinaire qui captive le regard et l’imagination. Tout comme pour le bar Hippopotame II, François-Xavier Lalanne puise son inspiration dans les dieux de l’Égypte alors qu’il est gardien au Musée du Louvre.
Ce babouin dissimulant une cheminée, nous est représenté sous la forme du dieu Thot assis en majesté. Sa posture et son regard intense créent une présence imposante et théâtrale. Il est dit que Thot capte la lumière de la lune, dont il régit les cycles, à tel point qu’il fût surnommé « le seigneur du temps ». Face à lui, le temps s’arrête et la lumière du feu nous captive.

François-Xavier Lalanne’s Babouin sculpture is an extraordinary work that captures the eye and the imagination. Combining sculptural artistry with the functionality of a fireplace, this bold creation, embodies the unique aesthetic and creative genius of the French artist. As with the Hippopotame II bar, François-Xavier Lalanne drew his inspiration from the ancestral gods of Egypt while working as a night guard at the Louvre Museum.
This baboon, concealing a fireplace, is represented as the god Thoth seated in majesty. His posture and intense gaze convey an imposing, theatrical presence. It is said that Thoth captures the light of the moon, whose cycles he governs, so much so that he was nicknamed “The Lord of Time.” Facing him, time stands still and the light of fire captivates us.
Every detail is meticulously crafted, revealing François-Xavier Lalanne’s skill and artistic mastery.
