Andrew Strauss et Timothy Baum du Man Ray Expertise Committee, ont confirmé l’authenticité de cette œuvre qui sera incluse au catalogue des Objets et Sculptures de Man Ray actuellement en cours de préparation.
" [...] L’art n’est pas une science, ni une expérience. Il n’y a pas de progrès dans l’art pas plus que dans le flirt. Il y a peut-être un certain progrès chez l’individu, mais sa signature ne change pas. Quand l’idée me vient, je me sers d’un bâton sur lequel sont attachés quelques poils. Je me fais peintre. Mon coiffeur et le violoniste au-dessus de moi se servent aussi de bâtons ayant des poils. Nous avons beaucoup en commun. Nous sommes aussi différents l’un de l’autre. Eux, ils essaient de travailler aussi bien que possible. Moi, j’essaie simplement d’être aussi libre que possible dans ma façon de travailler, dans le choix de mon sujet. Personne ne peut me donner des préceptes, ni me guider. On peut me critiquer après, mais c’est trop tard. Le travail est fait. J’ai gouté la liberté. C’était aussi un travail dur, mais qui en valait la peine."

“[...] Art is neither a science nor an experience. There can be no more improvement in art than in flirting. The artist might make some progress, but his signature remains the same. When I feel moved to do so, I pick up a little stick which has some bristles attached to it. I turn myself into a painter. My hairdresser and the violinist who lives above me also use sticks with bristles. We have a lot in common. But we are also very different. They try and work as well as possible, while I try to be as free as possible in the way I work and in my choice of subject. No-one can give me instructions or guidance. I may be criticised afterwards, but it is too late by then. The work is done. I have tasted freedom. It was a difficult job, but completely worth it.”
