Jean Brochier was the owner of the prominent silk-weaving workshop in Lyon who supplied the beautiful Chanton silk used for the Makemono scroll. In a letter to Brochier, dated 9/2/57, Miro effusively praises the quality of the material, admiring 'its impeccable execution, a veritable masterpiece of Lyonese craftsmanship'. The lot is accompanied by an original letter by Miro to Brochier; as well as several facsimiles of other letters relating to their collaboration.
