Francis Newton Souza

Francis Newton Souza, the enfant terrible of modern Indian art, was renowned for his bold and provocative works that bridged Western and Indian modern art. Souza was born in Goa, India in 1924, and would go on to become one of India’s most influential modern painters. Souza's early life was marked by hardship, including the death of his father and his own battle with smallpox.
