De Grisogono | Watches and jewellery for sale, auction results and history

Known for its daring designs, exquisite craftsmanship and pioneering use of black diamonds, de Grisogono has stood as an emblem of luxury, creativity and innovation since its inception in 1993. De Grisogono’s jewels made of superlative stones with vivid hues and unusual dynamism have attracted the attention of A-listers, style icons and collectors the world over. In 2022, de Grisogono was acquired by the Damac Group.

Founded in Switzerland by the Lebanese-Italian jeweller Fawaz Gruosi, de Grisogono rose to prominence with the launch of its first collection of black diamonds in 1996. The de Grisogono black diamond collection sparked an uptick of collector interest in black diamonds which continues to this day. De Grisogono has handled many notable black diamonds including the Spirit of de Grisogono diamond, the largest cut black diamond in the world.

The year 2000 saw the launch of the de Grisogono Instrumento No Uno collection of watches. The now-iconic Allegra collection of jewellery first appeared in 2003. Featuring delicately interwoven spirals, de Grisogono Allegra bracelets, earrings, rings and necklaces are now offered at auction. A de Grisogono Allegra ring, set with emeralds, pink sapphires, orange sapphires and amethysts, sold for HKD 30,000 at Christie’s in 2018. In 2022, a pair of de Grisogono Allegra earrings sold for $13,860, nearly double the high estimate.

Since 2000, the company has launched coveted jewellery collections, among them the Doppia collection, the Millefoglie collection and the Melody of Colours collection. Other popular pieces include the brand’s Boule earrings and Gypsy earrings, which evoke the movement of a gypsy’s skirt.

In 2016, a 404.20 carat rough diamond was mined in eastern Angola. The jewel that was extracted from the stone by de Grisogono jewellers was one of the largest D-Flawless emerald-cut diamonds the GIA had ever seen, and the largest ever to be offered for sale at auction. The diamond, weighing 163.41 carats, was later incorporated into a necklace with asymmetric design. In addition to the dazzling diamond centrepiece, it featured 18 emerald-cut diamonds on one side and two rows of pear-shaped emeralds on the other.

After being toured to Hong Kong, London, Dubai and New York, the de Grisogono diamond necklace set a world auction record when it achieved CHF 33,500,000 at Christie’s in Geneva in 2017.

In addition to the aforementioned necklace, Christie’s has sold de Grisogono earrings, rings and bracelets. Standout pieces include a de Grisogono emerald earrings and ring set, which more than doubled the high estimate at CHF 335,000 in 2015. The same year a de Grisogono ring with a 10.26 carat diamond sold for CHF 725,000 at Christie’s in Geneva.

De Grisogono cufflinks and other accessories including watches are also offered at Christie’s. In 2015, a rare titanium and limited-edition dual time wristwatch nearly tripled the high estimate when it fetched CHF 149,000, the highest de Grisogono watch price achieved at Christie’s to date.
