Œuvres vendues au profit du Fonds de dotation « L’Imprimerie d’Art du Montparnasse »
Il existe au cœur de Paris, à Montparnasse, un lieu rare chargé d’art et d’histoire. Sous une immense verrière, un atelier construit il y a plus de 140 ans abrite les presses lithographiques qui ont imprimé les chefs-d’œuvre de Picasso, Matisse, Giacometti, Chagall, Miró et de tant d’autres artistes du XXe siècle.
Dans le lignage de leurs illustres aînés, des artistes contemporains du monde entier continuent aujourd’hui d’y trouver une atmosphère unique et propice à la création.
Sous le parrainage de David Lynch, une douzaine d’artistes de rang international, emblématiques de l’atelier, participent à une dynamique exceptionnelle. Ils offrent une œuvre originale, vendue aux enchères chez Christie’s Paris le 19 octobre, au profit du fonds de dotation « L’Imprimerie d’Art de Montparnasse », dont la vocation est de préserver et de faire rayonner cet atelier mythique, dans une perspective d’intérêt général et de long terme.
Grâce à cet élan collectif auquel Christie’s est honoré de s’associer, l’atelier continuera d’être un havre de paix pour les artistes en escale à Paris, un prolongement de leur propre atelier, un lieu où se réfugier en silence pour rêver et créer, dans la magie des pierres, la vibration des presses et la rareté d’un moment suspendu.
Works sold to benefit the “Imprimerie d'Art du Montparnasse” endowment fund
At the heart of Paris, in Montparnasse, there is a rare enclave steeped in art and history. Under an immense glass roof, a workshop built over 140 years ago houses the lithographic presses that printed the masterpieces of Picasso, Matisse, Giacometti, Chagall, Miró and a great many other 20th-century artists.
Following in the footsteps of their illustrious elders, contemporary artists from all over the world continue to find here a unique atmosphere, conducive to creativity.
Under the patronage of David Lynch, a dozen internationally renowned artists, emblematic of the workshop, are taking part in exceptional dynamics. They are offering an original work, to be auctioned off at Christie's Paris on 19 October, for the benefit of the endowment fund, “L'Imprimerie d'Art de Montparnasse”, which aims to preserve and promote this legendary workshop in the public interest over the long term.
Thanks to this collective effort, with which Christie's is honoured to be associated, the workshop will continue to be a haven of peace for artists on a stopover in Paris, an extension of their own studio— a place where they can seek refuge in silence to dream and create, in the magic of the stones, the vibration of the presses and the rarity of a moment suspended in time.
