Agatha Christie
CHRISTIE, Agatha (1890-1976). Partners in Crime. London: W. Collins Sons & Co. Ltd., 1929.

Presentation copy of the first edition, inscribed by the author to her secretary, amanuensis and close friend Charlotte ‘Carlo’ Fisher: ‘Carlo with love from Agatha.’ No presentation copy appears in auction records. Christie’s second collection of short stories, it includes the story ‘A Fairy in the Flat’ in which the protagonists Tommy and Tuppence detect a blemish on a photograph in the shape of a fairy and consider writing to Arthur Conan Doyle about it—a reference to the Cottingley Fairies hoax which fooled the Sherlock Holmes author. Hubin p. 80.

Octavo. 4 pages of publisher’s advertisements at end (some spotting to preliminary and final gatherings, light spotting to edges). Original black cloth, upper cover titled in red with single red fillet border, spine lettered in red (lacking the dust-jacket, head of spine with tear into title, spine ends slightly frayed, extremities a trifle rubbed). Provenance: Charlotte ‘Carlo’ Fisher (1895-1976, secretary, amanuensis and close friend of Agatha Christie; presentation inscription by the author on front free endpaper, and with Fisher’s posthumous book label).
