The Growing series is a suite of five screenprints completed by Keith Haring in 1988 that showcase his signature use of vibrant color and graphic linear figures.

In addition to the standard edition, Haring also created 40 unique color variant trial proofs. Printing trial proofs is one of the methods artists use to experiment with different color versions of a print and provides insight into the creative process of printmaking. Signing and numbering trial proofs was a practice common to Andy Warhol, a contemporary and friend of Haring.

When Haring created this series he had been living with HIV for two years. As a dedicated civil rights activist all his life, Haring chose to live with his diagnosis publicly and fought powerfully against the misinformation and prejudices surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community at the time.

Notably, the impressions offered in this sale were the direct gift from Haring to his doctor, Dr. Craig E. Metroka, who cared for Haring until his death in 1990 at age 31.
