Dracula
New York, 1901
STOKER, Bram (1847-1912). Dracula. New York: A. Wessels Co., 1901.
A rare survival: a very early American paperback, "Special Limited Edition." A fine copy. The present Wessels edition was published in August, 1901 as part of the "Pan-American" series, presumably in honor of the World's Fair of 1901. The limitation is unknown but was likely based on the number of subscribers, since paperbacks in the series were released monthly. The wrappers are truly rare and the backstrip contains a wealth of information, including that the annual subscription price for the series was $6. Dalby p. 28.
Octavo. Original gray wrappers printed in blue and black (partial loss of publisher's name on the backstrip, but the other publication details and price intact).
