This type of prints with no black outlines is called mizu-e, often seen with outlines in faint colors such as red, yellow or green as the present lot. Early masters such as Torii Kiyomitsu (1735-1785), Suzuki Harunobu (1725-1770) and Kitao Shigemasa (1793-1820) are known for working on this type of prints. Another impression of the same print is in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicaco (1949.32).
