First and only edition in the 15th century of Lindau’s work, and the first German edition Ratdolt printed in Venice. The Beklagung von einem sterbenden Menschen is chapter 21 of a German translation of Henricus Suso, Horologium aeternae sapientiae. Median folio (312 x 212mm). 82 leaves. Decorative opening initials, first text page printed in red and black, partly rubricated (minor worming touching a few letters, occasional light finger soiling, last quire starting). Contemporary red pigskin-backed wooden boards, remains of clasp (spine ends rubbed and bumped). Provenance: Jerge [?jorge] von Breidenbach (contemporary inscription) – Herzoglicher S. Meiningischer Bibliothek (stamp). Prince Ernst of Sachsen-Meiningen, from whom dispossessed, 1945. The present work is being offered for sale pursuant to an agreement between the consignor and Prinz Ernst von Sachsen-Meiningen GbR. This resolves any dispute over ownership of the work and title will pass to the buyer.
