A presentation copy of the first edition, in dust jacket, inscribed to the CBS executive who brought Philip Marlowe to radio and television: "For Harry Ackerman / with good wishes / Raymond Chandler, Sept. 7, 1949." This fifth novel in the Philip Marlowe series is set in Los Angeles among the shady characters of old Hollywood. Ackerman’s radio adaptation of the Marlowe novels ran from 1949-1950.
