PEARY, Robert E. (1856-1920) – a scrapbook of material relating to Peary, put together by his daughter Marie Ahnighito Peary. United States, c.1900-1925
Folio album (349 x 256mm). 60 leaves of mounted items, including typewritten pages, newspaper articles, photos, telegrams, a 48-star American flag, and 2 Peary Arctic Club badges. Original black imitation-leather cloth. Provenance: Edward Peary Stafford (Robert Peary’s grandson) – PBA Galleries.
A wonderful scrapbook of articles and ephemera relating to Robert Peary, assembled by his daughter. Marie Ahnighito Peary was born in Greenland and immediately dubbed “The Snow Baby” by an adoring press around the world. Her father claimed to be the first to reach the North Pole and later was President of The Explorers Club, New York (1909-1911 and 1913-16). This album contains a bibliography of her father’s work, as well as extensive newspaper clippings related to both her and her father’s careers, and other small artifacts of their lives and adventures.
