Born in Ningxiang, Hunan, Liu Yin (Qing Dynasty) enjoyed painting and writing calligraphy,
as well as playing music and reciting poetry. He was close friends with Hu Dayuan (1778-
1841), Peng Jun (1769-1833), Shi Cheng and Deng Xianhe (1777-1851). Liu Yin was once
invited to the Ruyi Hall to paint for the Imperial Palace and Eight Sights of Xiao Xiang was one
of his most well-known works during his time there. He later traveled around the province of Hunan,
frequently painting landscape series.
