A LONGQUAN CELADON CARVED JAR AND COVER
YUAN DYNASTY, 14TH CENTURY
The jar is carved around the sides with lotus scroll above a border of upright lotus petals. The lotus leaf-form cover is carved with two lotus flowers joined by intertwined tendrils around the stem-form finial. The whole is covered with a glaze of attractive pale bluish celadon tone ending at the foot, revealing an unglazed area which has fired dark orange and cants inward towards the inset base.
