In Lisa Yuskavage’s Brande with Pink Sky from 2001 a dream-like atmosphere prevails, as gouache and watercolour blur the viewer’s sense of the voyeuristic scenery. A phone rests off the hook to the right of the picture, as the seductive blonde looks out at the viewer, confronting us directly with her gaze.
