PRINTED ON VELLUM. 398 gravure plates by Hallett Hyatt, of which 131 are duplicate plates finely hand-coloured and finished with gold, each plate with a printed guard. Original vellum, metal centre- and corner-pieces with the ciphers of prominent miniaturists, catches and clasps, green morocco doublures tooled in gilt and with floral morocco onlays, the doublures inset with 23 hand-painted miniatures probably on vellum after works reproduced in the catalogue, the free endpapers with green watered-silk doublures, each volume with multiple silk place-marks with cast metal tassels, original cloth slipcases (some place-marks with some wear or lacking tassel, light wear to slipcases). Provenance: H.M. Fletcher, bookseller (cost code dated May 1974).

Morgan's passion for buying the finest extant works by the rarest of the early masters is reflected in the superb production of the plates which document his collection; the hand-coloured plates in particular highlight the great quality and delicacy of Morgan's miniatures.
