De Wint exhibited a watercolour entitled Dolbaddern [sic] and the Lake of Llanberis, looking towards Caernarvon at the Old Water-Colour Society, 1836, no. 11, which may have been the present watercolour. In her memoirs of the artist, his wife Harriet recalled that 'Sublime and beautiful were blended and so diversified that every step afforded a subject for a picture...His last visit into the mountainous districts of Carnarvon [sic] and Merioneth was in the autumn of 1835' from which the present watercolour must have resulted.
