As its large size indicates, this drawing is not a project for one the numerous - around sixty - book illustrations executed by Le Barbier, but it is close by its subject and style to the vignettes made by the artist for Scarron's Roman comique published in 1796.
This drawing will be included in Michel Jacq-Hergoualc'h's forthcoming catalogue raisonne of Le Barbier's work.
