With Gioielleria Laccu, Agente Ufficiale Rolex, Sassari, Italy original letter dated 1998 confirming that the present reference 6036 was made on the occasion of the 1956 Olympic Games. Furthermore delivered with the original envelope and Rolex green wooden presentation box.

The present watch is an outstanding example of a reference 6036, believed to be part of an exceedingly small series of this celebrated model cased in pink gold. Distinguished by the red day and month indications in Italian, as opposed to the black printing of the regular versions, it is one of the most striking appearances of any Rolex chronograph model.

The service confirmation by Gioielleria Laccu, official Rolex retailer in Sassari, Italy, mentions that this watch was made for the occasion of the Olympic Games in 1956 - an information which until today was not known to scholars nor published anywhere in literature.

Extensive research results in the discovery that the original owner was quite certainly no one lesser than the multiple wrestling champion Adalberto Lepri. A resident of Sassari, he was Italian wrestling champion for nine consecutive years (1950-1958), active participant at the Olympic Summer Games in Helsinki in 1952 and at the Istanbul World Wrestling Cup in 1956. According to tradition, the present watch was offered to him in 1956 by the Italian Olympic Commitee in recognition of his decade long merits in this discipline.

The reference 6036 offered here for sale furthermore impresses by its beautiful, original two-tone silvered dial, enhanced by the rarity of the luminous accents and hands and the astoundingly sharp case. The gold mark underneath the lower right lug is crisp and the calendar correctors in the band seem hardly used.

Treasures like the present example are amongst the rarest trophies in today's market, a must for the discerning collector of extraordinary timepieces.

Reference 6036
Reference 6036, the third generation of the celebrated "Dato Compax" Oyster triple calendar chronograph model ever presented by Geneva's "crowned" watch manufacturer, was available with various dial layouts, cased mainly in yellow gold and in stainless steel.

The present watch, number 113'760, is illustrated in 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by John Goldberger, p. 88. A similar reference 6026 in pink gold with red calendar indications is described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 390 & 391.
