Patrick Hughes comments, 'Painting has been about taking all the three-dimensional reality and squeezing it into this sandwich behind glass ... My pictures are all appearances and people quickly think that they are real. Art - That's a convention of art, it's in a gallery, it's in a frame ... it can't be real.
