Inge Manzù has confirmed the authenticity of this sculpture.

The present work, conceived towards the end of Giacomo Manzù's long and prolific career, is a powerful example of the delicate modeling and grace his sculptures are renowned for. Beginning in the 1940s and lasting to the end of his life, Manzù focused mainly on two themes: ecclesiastical portraits and the female form, of which the present lot is one of the most moving examples. This bronze is a rare and important study for the much larger Inno Alla Vita located in the North Garden of the United Nations in New York. This larger version was commissioned in 1987 by the government of Italy and presented to the United Nations in October 1989. The present work, which was cast in 1988, is the only study made by the artist in preparation for this monumental sculpture.
