He aims to combine abstraction and realism using subltle forms and curves to create a sense of movement, simplicity and timeless beauty. A trip to the Isle of Skye, Scotland, in 1978 inspired Broderick's first stone carving of an otter. It was at Isle of Ornay, Skye, where he now holds annual summer exhibitions, that Broderick was able to study otters swimming in An Talla Dearg bay. Here he learned of Gavin Maxwell, author of Ring of Brightwater, who had written this well known book in the just across the Sound at Sandaig. Since then, Broderick has carved and modelled more that 90 otters. His work can be found in private and public collections world-wide including those of the Prudential, Powergen, Bell's Whisky, Dunlop, and the International Tennis Federation.
