As a valuer and business getter for the London auctions James works with clients around the globe, travelling mainly in the UK, Belgium, Germany and Scandinavia. Favourite past consignments include Pablo Picasso’s La femme au tambourin (sold for £661,500, February 2023), Andy Warhol’s Mao (sold for £403,200, September 2024), Banksy’s NOLA (Yellow Rain) - Outside of the edition (sold for £375,000, April 2021), as well as important editions sold by Private Sale.
James is Head of Sale for the London Contemporary Edition auctions and previously curated and led Christie's dedicated Banksy auctions, titled ‘I can't believe you morons actually buy this sh*t'. Established in 2019, these dedicated sales achieved exceptional results and in March 2021 set the highest total for any auction dedicated to the artist's works, achieving a total of £4.46 million ($6.1 million). James has also curated additional artist-focused sales such as 'Three Northern Masters: Albrecht Dürer, Lucas van Leyden and Rembrandt' and 'Howard Hodgkin: Feelings in Colour'.
He read Art History at University College London, where he gained a Master’s degree with Distinction in History of Art in 2013 with a thesis on Albrecht Dürer’s engraving Adam and Eve.
