拍卖简介
The contents of Mrs. Heinz’s London mews house and Manhattan townhouse will be offered in at Christie’s London on 4 June, following the auction of important impressionist and modern works from the collection on 13 May at Christie’s New York. The London house, purchased in the 1950s, survived with remarkably untouched interiors by the legendary decorator John Fowler. A second phase was executed in the 1980s by the renowned Renzo Mongiardino when a neighbouring mews house was annexed. Mongiardino added a theatrical ballroom, decorating the walls with trompe l'oeil vistas inspired by the Villa Falconieri, which balanced Fowler’s palatial double height drawing room, which sits on the opposite side of the internal court yard. Overlooking the East River, the Heinz’s five story Manhattan townhouse was decorated by Mongiardino in 1976, with its interiors recorded in Architectural Digest shortly after. The dedicated collection sale, to include in excess of 430 lots, illustrating these remarkable interiors through the lens of the objects they contained. The sale includes Impressionist & Modern, Modern British, Contemporary and Old Master Paintings complimented by English and European furniture and objet d’art, silver, Chinese porcelain and decorative and soft furnishings, with much supplied either by Colefax & Fowler or Renzo Mongiardino.
