London: John Booth, 1809-1810. 2 parts in one volume, 2° (346 x 254mm). 53 hand-coloured aquatint plates by J. Clark after Bradford and H. Michel. (Some browning and text offsetting onto plates.) Modern brown quarter calf.

FIRST EDITION, EARLIEST ISSUE, bound from original parts and therefore without the frontispiece (see Abbey), the text and plates with watermarks of 1807 and 1808, and the divisional title to Military Costume dated 1810. Bradford's Sketches of Portugal and Spain, which was first published in some 24 parts between 1809 and 1810, enjoyed great popularity in the immediate aftermath of the Peninsula War, with further issues following in 1812, 1813 and 1823.
