The Neufeld-Lackritz copy of the first UK edition, in the rare dust-jacket, of the final collection of Sherlock Holmes stories. This edition was published simultaneously with a Colonial issue and the American edition on 16 June 1927. Green and Gibson A46a; a Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone.
Octavo. Original pink cloth lettered in gilt to spine and upper cover (gilt lettering a little faded); original pictorial dust-jacket, variant with publisher's colophon and price on upper panel as well as spine (large area of restoration to front panel affecting Holmes’s head and upper body and two letters of the title, some creasing and chips and several short repaired tears); custom chemise and red quarter morocco slipcase. Provenance: James Foster Hasbrouck (1870-1945; bookplate) – Philip M. Neufeld (1905-1990; his sale, Christie’s NY, April 26, 1995, part of lot 395) – Richard M. Lackritz (1945-2009; his sale, Christie’s NY, April 17, 2002, lot 212).
