《花卉》是赵无极于1953年在巴黎绘製的画作，很明显属于早期作品，并在同一私人收藏中收藏了近七十年。大量弯曲的黄色水仙花从一个大碗中喜气洋洋的向外绽放，在一个温暖、朦胧的深蓝色与绯红色的背景上，宛如水晶般的闪闪发亮。盛开的花朵以基本形式的简洁、艺术符号描绘，显示出保罗·克利 (Paul Klee) 对赵无极具象作品充满诗情意境的影响，以及他对中国商代甲骨文的兴趣，而中国正是赵无极出生、成长，并生活到将近三十岁的地方。在此同时，这幅作品光芒闪烁的背景，似乎预示著赵无极之后转向抽象艺术，观者会看到在其抽象表现中，他将形式溶解并转化为华丽丰富、烟雾迷濛的色彩领域，进而与法国印象派以及纽约的抽象表现主义相互呼应。
