“I've been painting an awful lot. More than a hundred studies. And all on one theme, with the strictest diet I can impose on myself: only unmixed colors - with the exception of pink and rose - and all in fixed, geometrically defined quantities. All on an underlying, constructive rhythm. All the colors are applied once without either priming or overpainting of any kind. It's probably crazy, but I'm learning a lot doing this, and feel the need to do something to counteract all that smearing and all that self-expressionism."

Et toutes sur le même thème, avec le régime le plus stricte que j’arrive à m’imposer : uniquement des couleurs non-mélangées – avec l’exception du rose – et toutes dans des quantités fixes et définies géométriquement. Toutes sur un rythme constructif sous-jacent. Toutes les couleurs sont appliquées de manière singulière sans couche d'apprêt ni repeints. Cela doit paraitre fou, mais j’apprends beaucoup en faisant ceci et je ressens le besoin de faire quelque chose pour contrer tout ce barbouillage et cet expressionnisme ego centré."
