In No Matter How Hard I Think, I (Love) You (Lot 2524), Seong Tae-jin employs cable lines cutting through the cityscape into segments to illustrate multiple perspectives and spacial depth. In the vibrant configurations of his intricate geometrics, the scene of isolated city figures and title suggests a sense of longing and nostalgia.
Veiled under the sharp, multi-coloured palette, reminiscent of traditional Korean costume, in Saekdong, Seong's skillfully carved and painted wood panels are comic parodies of modern day utopia. Throughout these works, Seong is continuously developing his technical skills and artistic innovation, exploring the possibilities in merging the visual languages of both painting and wood-carving, traditional craft and contemporary artistic expressionism, through his splendidly absurd images of embossed surfaces.
