On September 29th, Macmillian & Co Ltd published a book called 'Inner Circle' by the Polish poet Jerzy Peterkiewicz. On its own the book would have been a sensational publication, treating, as it does, the whole question of the 'secret life'in the remote future, at the present day, and at the beginning of time. But this notice of 'Inner Circle' appears in Art Illustrated because of its illustrations. These are by F. N. Souza. The mark one of the most successful identifications with an author that any illustrated has yet achieved. Looking at Souza's drawings and reading Peterkiewicz's text, it is hard to believe that the artist was not also responsible for the story on three levels, or - if one did not know Souza's work well - that the writer had not drawn illustrations.
