Aus Cuno Amiets Frühzeit kennen wir nur einige wenige Stillleben. Erst um 1907-1909, als Amiets Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk von Vincent van Gogh ihren Höhepunkt erreichte, schuf der Künstler eine grössere Serie. In dieser Zeit ist auch unser Stilllleben, die Nelken und Ranunkeln vor Kachelofen, entstanden. Das Gemälde ist direkt beim Künstler angekauft worden und bis heute im Besitz der gleichen Familie geblieben.

From Cuno Amiet's early period we know of only a few still lifes. Only around 1907-1909, when Amiet's intense study of the work of Vincent van Gogh reached its high point, the artist created a larger series. Our still life, Nelken und Ranunkeln vor Kachelofen, dates to this time period. The painting was purchased directly from the artist and until today remained in the possession of the same family.
