Hansli neckpieces are of rigid torque-like form, usually made of solid ornamented silver. A variation, as seen here, is made of hollow gold decorated with gemstones and enamel. It is a common rural ornament for women of northern India and takes its name from hansli, 'collar bone' upon which rests the front of the torque.
