REAGAN JOKES WITH EISENHOWER ABOUT A RECENT GOLF GAME: "I DIDN'T SEE ANY WORD AS TO WHO WON...IS THIS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF MANAGED NEWS?"

A humorous note between the Governor and former President in which Reagan jests about Eisenhower's recent golf game. Reagan's first vote for a Republican was cast for Eisenhower in 1952. Although he remained a Democrat in name through the sixties, the support for Eisenhower initiated a change in political thought that would alter his future.

Here, Reagan comments on Eisenhower's recent golf game invoking the specter of media management that proved a necessity to government: "I didn't see any word as to who won in your recent well-publicized golf game. Is this another example of managed news? (I'm betting you won)." He concludes with a friendly note: "Nancy sends her love & please give our love to our Mamie."

Eisenhower's favorite pastime was golf and he spent his rare hours of leisure practising chip shots on the south lawn of the White House and putts on a green near the Rose Garden.
