(Some light spotting along fore-edge of textblock extending into endpapers and occasionally just into page margins.) Original red cloth (covers faintly mottled), dust-jacket (headcap fractionally chipped, light spotting on flaps). Provenance: Steimatzky (bookdealer's ticket on front pastedown).

EXTREMELY RARE FIRST EDITION of the memoirs of the policeman most widely known for the death of Avraham Stern (1907-1942). Morton joined the Palestine Police Force in 1930, and by 1939 he had risen through the ranks to be placed in charge of CID Lydda District. This brought him directly into conflict with the Stern Gang, whose use of improvised explosive devices became notorious. On pp.141-146 of the present work, Morton describes the capture of Stern and his subsequent shooting, which he claims was in self-defence as he believed Stern was trying to operate hidden explosives. Others have subsequently accused Morton of murdering Stern in cold blood, although Morton successfully sued four publishers of books making this claim.
