Métiers d’Art Crash Tigrée Métamorphoses
This superbly rich and vibrantly enamelled ‘Crash’ wristwatch is a recent addition to the ‘Cartier Menagerie’ and the first exotic version of the ‘Crash’ model. It was produced in a limited edition of 50-pieces in 2022.
Inspired in the Cartier tradition by the majestic and powerful wildlife of Africa, this ravishing creation combines the house colours of Cartier - turquoise, green, and midnight blue in champlevé enamel with diamonds to wonderful effect.
Created by the incredibly skilled craftsmen of the Maison des Métiers d’Art in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the enamelling and gem-setting is done entirely by hand. The Maison encourages a new generation of craftsmen in order to preserve original artisan techniques in metalworking and enamelling so that they can continue to be used in contemporary pieces such as the present Crash Tigrée Métamorphoses. The fluid naturalistic ‘tiger stripe’ design is a showcase for the exceptional craftsmanship of the Maison. In the making of this wristwatch, the enameller would have fired the gold case up to 10 times in a kiln at a temperature of over 700 degrees centigrade.
Internationally recognized as a symbol of impeccable taste, Cartier’s ‘Crash’ watch is overwhelmingly an object of desire, once seen it can never be forgotten. The ‘Crash’ watch instils in its beholder an almost magnetic fascination that is borne from all truly great design and craftsmanship, its fluid free-form shape and specially designed dial is unique among wristwatches. The ‘Crash’ watch is an exemplar of what can only be described as “the genius of Cartier”.
