Lot Essay
Giovanni Giacometti's drawing Ottilia depicts his daughter who was eight years old at the time. In the same year, Giacometti went on to make an oil painting of this young girl that is now in the Oskar Reinhart Museum in Winterthur. Because of the similarities in both style and composition between these two portraits, it is believed that this drawing that is being offered within the framework of the Swiss Art Auction is a sketched draft of the later oil painting (Giovanni Giacometti WK. Nr. 1912.06).
