Das Gemälde zeigt ein kleines, blondes Mädchen, das über den Weg Val-Reine flaniert, der sich in der Nähe von Cote de Grace, Honfleur, befindet. Auch wenn die Ziegelabdeckung heute nicht mehr so rosa ist, hat sich, seit dem das Bild entstanden ist, nicht viel an der Umgebung geändert. Auch die kleine Andachtsstätte für die Jungfrau Maria befindet sich noch heute am Ende des Weges. Diese wird von Vallotton zwar nur mit weissen Farbspuren angedeutet, aber sie übernimmt eine zentrale stilistische Rolle. So führt er mit dem Farbkontrast zwischen dem Weiss und den sonst eher dunklen Farben den Blick des Betrachters in die Tiefe des Bildes und somit verhaftet der Blick nicht nur im Vordergrund. Ferner wird dem Betrachter bewusst, dass das sehr klein gehaltene, spazierende Mädchen auch ein stilistisches Mittel ist, um einen Kontrast zu der üppigen Vegetation herzustellen, die einmal mehr das Hauptthema des Gemäldes bildet.
