Im Jahr 1898, kurz nach der Heirat mit Anna Luder, zog das Paar auf die Oschwand. Nach George Mauner, Kunsthistoriker und Experte Amiets, schuf Cuno Amiet in den folgenden Jahren, zwischen 1904 und 1906, einige der "persönlichsten und eindrücklichsten Bilder seiner ganzen Karriere".
