Lot Essay

The two works 'Fiori e frutta' and 'Iris' have been regarded as counterparts since their origination. The painting 'Fiori e frutta' is by Giovanni Segantini, whereas 'Iris' was created by the North Italian artist Giuseppe Barbaglia. The boards originally served as decoration for furniture cabinets. It is believed that both works were part of the same piece of furniture, since they have nearly the same dimensions. The two painters Barbaglia and Segantini met each other during their studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan.
