Lot Essay

The present work is the original design for an aquatint of the same title in the Lorca Suite of 1989 (see D. Kemp, Terry Frost Prints: A Catalogue Raisonné, Surrey, 2010, p. 128, no. 99.). The Lorca Suite was completed in 1989 and consists of eleven prints, each inspired by a different work by the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. Frost wrote: 'I've been in love with Lorca's poetry for fifteen years. For ten years I've been making paintings, collages, prints, all given to me by Lorca. It has given me some of the best years of my life' (see D. Lewis, Terry Frost, Aldershot, 2000, p. 216).
