Lot Essay

'The girl on the left of the picture I discovered working in a picture gallery in Canterbury and I was so struck by her looks and gracefulness that I asked her to come and pose for me. After one or two sittings she told me she had a sister a nurse married to a Dr ... The costumes they wear are Turkish. Gillian the left hand girl wears a genuine one ...'
