Lot Essay

Delaney's work represents street scenes and industrial landscapes of the North as remembered from his childhood in Manchester. The theme of the Suffragettes's march reoccur in a couple of his works. Some of the earliest Suffragette campaigns originated in Manchester. Until 1906, the headquarters of The Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) was based in Manchester under the leadership of Emmeline Pankhurst, who was born in Manchester in 1858.
