Ein Abzug, den Vuillard seinem Künstlerfreund Vallotton gewidmet und dieser bis an sein Lebensende behalten hatte. Vallotton und Vuillard hatten sich 1888 an der Académie Julian in Paris kennengelernt und waren noch im gleichen Jahr der Künstlergruppe Nabis beigetreten.
