Photograph with very lengthy inscription (in English) signed ("Leon Trotsky"), Coyoacan, Mexico, 24 October 1938. 7 x 4 15/16 in., including margins. Neatly inscribed in blue ink in lower right-hand portion: "We are proud, my dear Antoinette, to have you in our ranks. You are a beautiful example of energy and devotion for our youth. I embrace you with the wish: long live Antoinette Konikow! Leon Trotsky 24/x/1938 Coyoacan."
TROTSKY TO AN AMERICAN TROTSYITE, Dr. Antoinette Konikow of Boston, an advocate of birth control, Chairwoman of the National Women's Committee of the Socialist Party, and a founder of the Trotskyite Socialist Workers Party. A striking full face portrait of a smiling Trotsky, exiled by Stalin to Mexico in 1936. In exile, Trotsky proved a very vocal critic of the Stalin regime and in 1940 was murdered on Stalin's orders. A rare photograph with an exceptionally interesting association.
