Event date 5 - 11 May -
Event location Paris
From May 5 to 11, Christie’s will present an exclusive exhibition dedicated to the work of British artist and designer Marianna Kennedy. For this exceptional event, Christie’s is delighted to entrust its Parisian galleries to Tilda Swinton’s unique vision. Curated by Swinton, Supersonic Mediaeval unites Kennedy’s most significant works, seamlessly blending modernity and tradition. The title, a playful homage to Swinton’s deep admiration for Kennedy’s art, embodies the fusion that lies at the core of the artist’s practice.
The exhibition transforms the space into a cinematic environment, drawing inspiration from the historic houses of Spitalfields, while Kennedy’s use of materials—resin, wood, bronze, and Murano glass—reinterprets traditional craftsmanship through a contemporary lens.
This retrospective offers a profound insight into Kennedy’s creative journey, continuing Christie’s Carte Blanche series, which celebrates contemporary innovation across various artistic disciplines.
I have always been inspired by Tilda’s unique artistic vision combined with a playful sense of collaboration. We both share a respect for craftsmanship and a love of beauty bridging the gap between past and present but always looking forward. For us the past is always new—Marianna Kennedy
Highlights
Marianna’s work has always sprung from and lived in, for me, a particularly sweet spot, one where the ancient and resonant meet the unknown and surprising. This is the landscape of the Supersonic Medieval, invested in exquisite craftsmanship and joyful colour and merging the familiar and the fresh: its atmosphere brings with it a breath to the heart of recognition, renewal, and of bright new horizons ahead—Tilda Swinton
