About Barolo en primeur charity auction

On 27th October 2023 in the spectacular setting of the Grinzane Cavour Castle with live streaming to London – new for 2023 – and to New York in the presence of Antonio Galloni, world-renowned wine critic and Vinous CEO, the third edition of the charity auction to raise funds for non-profit organisations and projects will take place under the careful direction of Christie’s auction house.
The first edition, held in October 2021, raised over 660,000 euros with which 17 charitable projects were financed. In the second edition in 2022, over 834,000 euros were raised, 20 charitable projects were financed, and thanks to the generosity of the producers who made their bottles available, the historic Enology School of Alba was supported. Also this year, the proceeds will be donated to social projects and initiatives in the fields of health, research, the arts and culture, as well as schemes promoting social inclusion and the safeguarding of the Italian cultural heritage.
Barolo en primeur is a social responsibility project promoted by the Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo Foundation in collaboration with the CRC Donare Foundation ETS and the Consortium of Protection of Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani. This charity auction in aid of socially useful projects in Italy and abroad, this year will offer 12 barriques of a prestigious Barolo wine still being aged in the barrel. When the wine completes the ageing process in 2026, each barrique will yield around 270 bottles, which will be numbered and marked with a label specially created by the internationally renowned artist Otobong Nkanga.
In the previous edition, in addition to the barriques, 10 communal lots made up of the finest bottles of Barolo and Barbaresco produced by the wineries belonging to the Consortium of Protection of Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani from the 2021 vintage were offered for sale. In 2023, the 10 communal lots are again offered for sale from the 2022 vintage, with a notable increase in the number of large formats provided by the producers who have donated the wines. In fact, 1,034 bottles, 242 magnums and 61 double-magnums have been donated. Once again this year, the proceeds from the 10 communal lots will go to the Enology School of Alba, a unique institution founded over 140 years ago and flagship of the local area.
Barolo en primeur is confirmed as a noble and worthwhile initiative to promote Barolo and its culture and to support various social projects in Piedmont, Italy and around the world.
