First Open Post-War and Contemporary Art

First Open Post-War and Contemporary Art

Sale Overview

Please find attached the Top Ten results of the First Open sale of Post-War and Contemporary Art held in New York which realized a total of $8,434,150 / £5,229,173 / €6,494,296.

Leading the auction was a rare work by Yayoi Kusama, Red Nets, No.19, 1960 which doubled its pre-sale estimate after a bidding battle between multiple clients in the room and on the phone.  In a sale with such a strong presence of female artists, Charlie Adamski and Charlotte Perrottey, co-heads of the First Open sale are particularly pleased that four of the highest prices were achieved by women, Yayoi Kusama, Louise Bourgeois, Helen Frankenthaler and Lynda Benglis.
