Christie’s 20th/21st Century: Shanghai Evening Sale presents a curated selection of modern and contemporary masterpieces, led by Zao Wou-ki’s rare Zitterlein from his celebrated Oracle Bone period. Its vibrant colours and elegance driven from ancient forms embody the artist’s renowned style of this period which profoundly influenced his abstract creations in the subsequent decades.
This auction brings together significant pieces from the East and the West, featuring modern Asian masters Chu Teh-Chun, Sanyu, Kazuo Shiraga, Korean and Japanese female artists including Rhee Seundja and Yayoi Kusama, as well as Western artists including the Surrealist Giorgio de Chirico, the Fauvist Raul Dufy, the father of Lyrical Abstraction Georges Mathieu, Marc Chagall and more.
