Jadé Fadojutimi

Born and raised in London, Jadé Fadojutimi (b. 1993) is a rising star in the contemporary art scene. Graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art and the Royal College of Art, Fadojutimi became the youngest artist to enter the Tate’s collection in 2021 and made her Venice Biennale debut the following year.

Fadojutimi developed a love of colour at a young age, informed by her eclectic interests in fashion, Japanese anime and video games. In her studio, Fadojutimi seeks to recreate the sanctity of her childhood bedroom, surrounding herself with clothes, old soft toys and fragments of her own writings. Frequently working late at night, she pays close attention to her innermost thoughts and feelings, allowing them to guide her hand intuitively across the canvas. She draws much of her inspiration from the natural world, describing her paintings as ‘environments’ that she builds up through complex techniques of gridding and layering.

Her process is intensely physical and improvisational, with each piece evolving organically on the canvas. Fadojutimi often begins without a clear plan, allowing the paint and her movements to guide the creation of each work. This method results in paintings that are imbued with a sense of spontaneity and raw emotion, capturing moments of joy, conflict, and introspection.

Fadojutimi made her first solo museum debut in 2021 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Miami. Since then, her work has been exhibited in London, Berlin, Cologne and Kyoto, and are part of the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Tate in London and more.

In 2024 Jadé Fadojutimi’s 2021 work, The Woven Warped Garden of Ponder, broke the artist’s auction record to achieve £1,552,500 at Christie’s in London.
